June 26 SVRA Meeting
Reviewing RapidTO Revisions

When: Tuesday, June 26, 7:00 to 8:30pm.  Doors open at 6:30

Where: St. Alban's Boys' & Girls' Club - Gymnasium

SUMMARY

As you may know, the Seaton Village community has had minimal consultation about the recently announced RapidTO Bathurst plan. The SVRA has been in touch with our City Councillor, Dianne Saxe, who has since recommended some alterations to the original plan that she submitted at the SVRA AGM on June 10. Please download and read her PDF document below.

Volunteers needed If there is a volunteer who can help arrange a Zoom set-up for us, please advise the Chair, Heather Sloman at seatonvillageto@gmail.com so we can have a hybrid meeting. We will also need people at 6:30 to arrange chairs, and more to stay to put them away at end of the meeting.

Protect Bathurst represents a significant number of businesses on Bathurst adjacent to Seaton Village, and are using Change.org for distribution.

Please read their information and continuing questions about TTC data HERE.

BACKGROUND

RapidTO is not a routine transit improvement. It is a reconfiguration of public space that removes access for thousands of residents, while offering no alternatives for the many small businesses and residents who live along the 7.5km of Bathurst, a mixed-use corridor. The project has been rushed through for FIFA 2026. This plan was designed and approved on a compressed timeline that failed to solicit proper and meaningful consultation with community stakeholders, and without an appropriate safety and accessibility review. The City of Toronto and Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) invite residents to learn about and provide feedback on opportunities to improve public transit along 7.5 km of Bathurst Street, from Eglinton Avenue West to Lake Shore Boulevard West. Tens of thousands of people rely on buses and streetcars along this key route every day, but traffic congestion slows service down. Priority transit lanes are being considered to help reduce delays and improve reliability.

June 24 SVRA Members' Meeting
Barton one-way west between Clinton and Christie

When: Tuesday, June 24, 7:00 to 8:30 pm.

Meeting will be online.  Zoom link will be sent out to SVRA members prior to meeting.

SUMMARY

As you may be aware, members of the Traffic Calming Committee have been working with Dianne Saxe's office to address the traffic issues within the neighbourhood, including the excessive cut-through traffic on Barton Ave.  Andrew Greene (Dianne's chief of staff) has come up with a proposal to help address THIS longstanding issue.  It involves making Barton Ave from Clinton to Christie St 1-way westbound. Because the change would only cover 1 block of Barton, it would not require a traffic study (which we are unable to obtain).

Councilor Saxe's office would like to prepare a motion to be presented to the Toronto and East York Community Council

Meeting 24,  July 8, 2025, 9:30 AM.

BACKGROUND

We believe that with the Mirvish Village influx, proposed TTC changes to Bathurst, the tower at Barton and Bathurst, and all of the other developments along Christie and Dupont, the pressure for cut-through traffic is about to get worse.  For these reasons, both Dianne's staff and the traffic calming committee agree about the importance of acting on this now.

At the same time, there is recognition that any changes to Barton may affect some SV residents and care must be taken to minimize negative impacts.  Since this proposal limits traffic direction on just one block, it is expected to have less impact than other previously considered measures (such as implementing one-way traffic along the entire length of Barton between Christie and Bathurst).  Additionally, because most non-resident cut through traffic flows eastbound in the morning and westbound in the late afternoon, designating this block as westbound one-way will reduce morning traffic during school arrival times, thereby improving safety for children and families walking to school.

This meeting is for SVRA members.
