Vermont Square Park Visioning

The Seaton Village Residents' Association (SVRA) is excited to announce a proactive new step toward addressing the needs and issues facing Vermont Square Park.

While many residents have approached the Greening Committee with aspirations and concerns about the park, the City's official review is not slated until 2035—a wait the Greening Committee members agree is far too long.

They discovered a creative solution: apply to partner with the University of Toronto’s Multidisciplinary Urban Capstone Project (MUCP).

What is the MUCP?

MUCP connects the SVRA with a diverse team of final-year undergraduate students from various disciplines at U of T. From September 2026 to April 2027, this multidisciplinary team will be matched with our project. The students will research, propose, and prototype a solution to address current challenges in the park.

This promising partnership offers a wealth of benefits, including innovative concepts and improvements; obtaining solutions to key issues; leveraging technical and theoretical multidisciplinary knowledge, and engaging the local community.

What to Expect from the Project

It is important to note that this is a creative and exploratory endeavour, and no City funding has been attached to it. Therefore, the outcome will not be a specific, shovel-ready project for the park.

Instead, the SVRA will receive a comprehensive plan driven by creative thinking to better serve the needs of all diverse stakeholders. This plan will guide both the City and the community in addressing current problems and developing a clearer vision for the future of Vermont Square Park.

Key Dates and How You Can Participate

The SVRA application for MUCP will be submitted by April 27, and project selections will take place during May. The application team is committed to keeping the community informed every step of the way.

Supporters of the application hope the first update will be the good news that the Vermont Square Park Visioning project is selected. The Greening Committee has ensured that any and all opportunities for the community to submit ideas and have a voice are shared, so everyone can participate. Stay tuned for updates.
